KRP - Kern River Preserve

Wednesday, September 4th
- Black-chinned, Anna's, and Selasphorus (Rufous & Allen's) Hummingbirds are still present in large numbers at the feeders at Kern River Preserve Headquarters. They are still consuming over 200 ounces per day through this day. BOBA. 
Wednesday, September 4th - Summer Tanagers are still coming to the last of the grapes at the grape arbor at KRP headquarters. Also feasting on the grapes are Nuttall's Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, American Robin, Western Tanager, and House Finch. BOBA.
Friday, August 30th - Last date for Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Found southwest of KRP's Prince's Pond off Sierra Way and northeast of the KOA campground off Hwy. 178. Reported by the Yellow-billed Cuckoo research team.
Wednesday, August 28th - A singing Bell's Vireo was observed along the south side of the South Fork Kern River riparian forest west of KRP's Prince's Pond this morning. This is from one of two locations where this species has been detected off and on all summer. RYYO.
Saturday, August 24th - A White-winged Dove was videotaped at a private residence in Onyx. This is the 4th Kern River Valley record for this Colorado and Sonoran Desert species. SCBA.
Saturday, August 24th - A Pinyon Jay was observed flying south to north low over KRP headquarters early this morning. BOBA.
Wednesday, August 21st - A Yellow-headed Blackbird was observed in the cattails lining the irrigation channel at the main entrance to the Kern River Preserve. JAMC, SYSC.
Sunday, August 4th - Five species of hummingbirds were banded this morning at Kern River Preserve Headquarters by bander Donald Mitchell: Black-chinned, Anna's Calliope, Rufous, and Allen's. DOMI.
