Tu, Jul 20 - Brown-crested Flycatcher. One individual "whitting" and calling from the forest on the north of the Colt Pasture between 7:45am-8:15am. Heard  from the dirt road leading to the west from Kern River Preserve headquarters. BB.

Sa, Jul 17 - Summer Tanager (1), Blue Grosbeak (2 males), Lazuli Bunting (4-5 males, 2-3 female/hatching year). Observed along the quarter mile stretch of Fay Ranch Road leading north from the bridge over the South Fork Kern River.

Sa, Jul 17 - Winter Wren. Three individuals heard and seen at three different locations along the Trail of 100 Giants across from Redwood Meadow Campground, Sequoia National Forest, thirty-five road miles north from Kernville.

We, Jul 14 - Black-chinned Sparrow and Scott's Oriole at Hwy. 178 milepost 74, seventeen miles east of the Kern River Preserve.

Tu, Jul 13 - Tricolored Blackbird. A half-dozen males of this species were seen in the field on the south side of Hwy. 178 just west of the entrance to the Kern River Preserve.

Su, Jul 11 through Mo, Jul 19 - Red-eyed Vireo. Up to five singing males reported at various locations on the Kern River Preserve and South Fork Wildlife Area. SAL.

Su, Jun 20 - 12+ Black Swifts and two Black-chinned Sparrows. Observed at 6:45am between mileposts 3.0 and 2.0 on the road to Johnsondale (above the bridge over the North Fork Kern River). Tu, Jun 8 - Summer Tanager (adult male). Present in yard at Kern River Preserve Headquarters. BB.

Tu, Jun 8 - American Redstart. Singing male. Vicinity of Palmer Forest restoration site, Kern River Preserve. SAL, PLW.

Mo, Jun 7 - Lawrence's Goldfinch. 227 individuals counted in 30 min. (8:15-8:45am) along 0.7 mile long dirt road leading west from Kern River Preserve Headquarters. Included were flocks of 80, 66, 30, 20, and 11 individuals put to flight by a male and female Cooper's Hawk, an adult Red-shouldered Hawk, an adult and immature Red-tailed Hawk, and a female American Kestrel. BB.

Sa, Jun 5 - Rose-breasted Grosbeak. Female at a private residence in Inyokern. SS.  Note: Should be looked for whenever a Black-headed/Rose-breasted Grosbeak is heard on the Kern River Preserve in the next two months as most records for the Preserve are from June and July.

Tu, Jun 1 - Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Meadow Field restoration site located 0.5 mi. SSE of Kern River Preserve Headquarters. 5th report this spring. KP.

Tu, Jun 1 - Yellow-billed Cuckoo. One male "cooing/cueing" from restoration site inside Nature Trail loop, 0.3 mi. ENE of Kern River Preserve Headquarters. 4th report this spring. MW.
